Jess is back on the hunt for the next killer on his list, Dave Nutter. His search takes him to the town of Dryden. When he gets there, he discovers that Nutter has murdered yet another innocent man.
Nutter proves to be an elusive prey, and the hunt takes him to the town of Frankfurt. He misses Nutter again but soon discovers that the community is besieged by a bunch of outlaws and thieves led by a man named Eddie Pickett.
Pickett and his men are holed up in a box canyon just outside of town. They’ve been stealing supplies meant for the town. When they come into town, they cause nothing but trouble. All the businesses are suffering because no one wants to travel through or visit, for fear of all the outlaws coming in and out.
Jess suspends his hunt for Nutter and promises the townsfolk that he’ll rid the town of the outlaws. He sends a message asking for John Bodine to join him.
When Bodine arrives in Frankfurt, he and Jess work to systematically eradicate the town of troublemakers and get everything back to normal.
When that job is finished, Jess picks up his hunt for Nutter.
