Jess is back on the job, hunting the next killer on his list, Mick Barton. His hunt takes him to the town of Carlisle, but before he gets there, he finds a couple murdered along the trail next to their wagon.
When he takes the bodies into Carlisle, he discovers that Arthur Meeks and Elliot Wrigley were the murderers. He also learns that they left Carlisle on the same southern trail that Mick Barton had used to leave. He begins his search for all three of them.
After successfully catching the three, he takes the bodies to the county sheriff in the town of Bradford. On his way, he discovers a stagecoach that has been robbed. The only person who survived was a young woman named Amanda.
Jess immediately takes a liking to her and brings her to Bradford so the doctor can treat her bullet wound. He puts her up in the hotel in Bradford and helps to take care of her. He soon finds out that she was a mail-order bride on her way to marry a rich rancher outside of El Paso.
While recovering from her wound, Amanda is able to sketch likenesses of the two men who robbed the stagecoach. As soon as Jess sees them, he knows exactly who they are: Larry Thompson and Henry Wadsworth.
He goes on the hunt for them, promising Amanda that he will come back after he catches them.
